Frequently asked questions

Everything about our ingredients

What does “hormone‑friendly skincare” mean?

For us, “hormone‑friendly” means choosing mild, certified, and skin‑barrier‑friendly ingredients and avoiding ingredient categories that are classified as potential endocrine disruptors in EU scientific assessments.

It does not mean that our products affect hormones.

It simply means we formulate without certain ingredient groups that many consumers prefer to avoid.

Holisté products are designed to support:

• sensitive and reactive skin

• a healthy skin barrier

• minimal exposure to unnecessary synthetic additives

Which ingredients does Holisté avoid?

We avoid ingredient categories that are commonly questioned by consumers or restricted in certain certifications, including:

• Parabens

• Phthalates

• Sulfates (SLS/SLES)

• Synthetic fragrances

• Mineral oils

• Silicones

• PEGs

All our formulas follow COSMOS Organic/Natural standards, which strictly regulate what can and cannot be used.

What does EU regulation say about endocrine‑disrupting ingredients?

The EU has some of the strictest cosmetic regulations in the world.

Key points:

• Certain parabens (e.g., propylparaben and butylparaben) are classified as potential endocrine disruptors at higher concentrations.

• Several phthalates historically used in fragrances are now banned or heavily restricted.

• The EU continuously reviews scientific data and updates restrictions accordingly.

Holisté follows both EU law and the stricter COSMOS certification criteria.

What does COSMOS certification mean?

COSMOS is one of the world’s most respected organic and natural certification standards.

It ensures that:

• every ingredient is reviewed and approved

• no parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, or petrochemicals are allowed

• formulas meet strict environmental and safety criteria

• production follows responsible, traceable sourcing

• packaging meets sustainability requirements

When you see the COSMOS logo, you know the product has passed independent verification.

Do Holisté products contain synthetic fragrance?

No.

We use no synthetic fragrance and no parfum blends.

Our products are either:

• fragrance‑free, or

• lightly scented with certified organic essential oils (when used)

This makes our formulas suitable for sensitive and reactive skin.

Why do we avoid parabens and phthalates?

Parabens and phthalates are ingredient groups that many consumers prefer to avoid due to ongoing scientific discussion around their potential endocrine‑disrupting properties.

While some are allowed in low concentrations under EU law, COSMOS certification does not permit them.

We choose to avoid these categories entirely to offer:

• cleaner formulations

• simpler INCI lists

• peace of mind for sensitive‑skin users

Are endocrine‑disrupting ingredients banned in the EU?

Some are banned. Some are restricted. Some are allowed in low concentrations. The EU evaluates each ingredient individually based on scientific evidence.

Holisté goes further by following COSMOS, which excludes several ingredient groups that are still legally allowed in conventional cosmetics.

Is “clean beauty” the same as hormone‑friendly skincare?

Not exactly.

Clean beauty is a broad marketing term with no single definition.

Hormone‑friendly skincare, as we define it, is more specific:

• avoiding ingredient categories classified as potential endocrine disruptors

• choosing certified organic and natural ingredients

• focusing on mildness and skin‑barrier support

• following strict third‑party certification (COSMOS)

It’s a more transparent and regulated approach than typical “clean beauty” claims.

Are Holisté products suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes.

Our formulas are designed for sensitive, reactive, and easily irritated skin.

We focus on:

• minimalistic formulations

• gentle surfactants

• plant‑based oils and extracts

• no synthetic fragrance

• no harsh preservatives

• COSMOS‑approved ingredients only

Many customers with eczema‑prone or reactive skin choose Holisté for this reason.

Where can I read the full ingredient lists?

Every product page includes a complete INCI list, exactly as required by EU law.

If you want deeper ingredient explanations, you’re always welcome to contact us — transparency is at the heart of our brand.

Do your products balance hormones?

No.

Our products do not affect hormones or treat hormonal conditions.

“Hormone‑friendly” simply means:

• we avoid certain ingredient categories

• we follow strict certification standards

• we choose mild, skin‑friendly formulations

It is a formulation philosophy, not a medical claim.

Are your products vegan and cruelty‑free?

Yes.

All Holisté products are:

• vegan

• cruelty‑free

• not tested on animals

• compliant with EU animal testing regulations

Are your products organic?

Yes — all products are either COSMOS Organic or COSMOS Natural, depending on the formula.

This means:

• a high percentage of ingredients are organic

• all ingredients meet strict natural‑origin criteria

• no GMOs, petrochemicals, or synthetic fragrances

How do you define your formulation philosophy?

Holisté is built on three principles:

1. Mildness — gentle, barrier‑supportive ingredients

2. Purity — certified organic and natural formulations

3. Transparency — clear communication about what we use and why

We believe skincare should support the body, not burden it.
